Daiquiris! The fruity drink that can pretty much be made
with any kind of fruit, ice and alcohol. The classic Daiquiri is usually a
version of Strawberry but I have also seen Watermelon, Mango, Coconut, and
other great mixtures. So who actually created the Daiquiri? Well there is
actually a debate over who started National Daiquiri day.
It’s said that an American mining engineer named Jennings
Cox created the drink in Cuba. Some say that US congressman William Chanler
purchased the Santiago iron mines and then brought the recipe back to New York
in 1903. Personally, I think that Jennings Cox may have met up with US
congressman William Chanler. The Congressman liked it so much that he brought
the recipe back to the United States.
So it’s National Daiquiri Day! How do you make a Daiquiri?
Did you know that the original recipe was not blended? This
drink recipe was original on the rocks. That makes this drink recipe versatile because
not everyone may have a blender handy.
- Pour the light rum, lime juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
I personally like to serve Daiquiris in a large wine glass
with a slice of fruit for a garnish. Though I do prefer blended drink recipes
over drinks that are served over ice.
Happy National Daiquiri Day and enjoy this drink recipe
